Urti Lakinyeri (Deadly Family)
This piece is a heartfelt representation of my lakinyeri (family) and the strength of our bond. My dad often says that all he’s ever wanted is for his kids to have a strong connection with one another. Through my parents' guidance, love, and unwavering commitment, they have made that dream a reality.
At the heart of the painting is the main campsite, representing my lakinyeri as a whole. Surrounding this are six other campsites, each symbolizing the diverse family units we have created. These campsites are connected by glowing tracks, which illuminate a path through the darkness, showing the way back to one another in times of need.
The different styles of the campsites highlight the individuality and diversity within each family, while the larger central campsite stands as a powerful symbol of unity. Here, we are depicted holding our spears, a testament to the strength and resilience of our family as one.
“Urti Lakinyeri” honors the beauty of family, the bonds that endure through life’s challenges, and the light that always leads us back home.
