Kinanyi Lakinyeri (Her Family)
This piece represents the unwavering support my family has given me throughout my life. The two different-colored campsites symbolize the love and strength I receive from both sides of my family—my nangar’s (mother’s) side and my matjurunu’s (father’s) side. The spears next to me, encircling each campsite are a reflection of the resilience I’ve gained through the strength of my lakinyeri (family).
The flowing black lines trace the path of my life, highlighting the different stages of my journey. The finer lines represent times when I veered off track, only to be redirected by the love and guidance of my lakinyeri. The black-on-black design is deliberate, representing moments when I felt alone or unseen, yet my lakinyeri were always there, silently working to bring me back to my path.
The numerous campsites and figures surrounding me symbolize the network of people in my support system, from both nangar and matjurunu’s sides.
This piece offers a glimpse into my life, my family, and the deep, unconditional love I have for my lakinyeri.
